Dear Experienced Mama's,
But now......
For several days he has refused to take his afternoon nap. He will sit in his crib and play or cry or scream. the. entire. time. I've tried adjusting the times he goes down to see if that helps. Nope. I've even tried keeping him awake from his morning nap to see if he would take his afternoon nap. That just made for a miserable morning, and he still wouldn't nap that afternoon.
So what do I do?
Sometimes when he is teething, his naps tend to get out of whack. And he IS currently cutting 4 molars... so maybe this is the problem? Do I wait it out for a little bit longer, keep trying the afternoon naps, and hope that it is just a phase?
Do I resort to the fact that he may possibly be transitioning to the dreaded one nap a day?
Is there something else I need to be doing or trying?
And all you mamas who have already gone through this, what times do your one-nap-a-dayer's usually take that one said nap?
Sincerely,
One Exhausted Lady

C didn't transition to 1 nap til about 15 months I think. I dreaded it, too. But now? It's lovely! I get way more done! It took a good week to get it "down" and he still takes about a 3-hour nap from 1-4. He used to take two 1.5 hour naps. The longer we stuck with one nap, the longer they got.
Ugh, teething or sicky is never a good time...2 naps or one!
We are transitioning Cash right now. It was getting so hard every nap and then at night he would put up a good fight too and I spent waayyyyyyy too much time trying to get the kid to sleep. We are now pushing his morning nap to as late as possible. Sometimes it is after lunch at noon and sometimes it is 11 but he gets some good sleep in there and is real tired by bedtime.
It was hard to say goodbye to 2 naps but my life just got easier overall.
Good luck!
I think you are ready to go down to one my dear. The transition is hard and it takes three weeks to get them back to a decent nap length, but you can do it and when you do you will love it! More time to run errands and have playdates, etc, without the naps getting in the way. The only hard part is adding one more who will take multiple naps so you will just be tied to the house all day. Been there, you'll get through it I promise.
P.S. nap usually starts around 12:30 and once adjusted lasts until 3 or 3:30
Jessie!
I am & have been dealing w/ the same issue...
it is hard struggling w/ a tired boy that won't nap, etc
so if you get any good advice that works let me know
:0!
Sorry to say.... one nap a day! My kids would do it around 12 or 1 and it lasts 2-3 hours. That is all Cael does now too... But I do love it cause I feel like I can go places in the morning now, or in the late afternoon, and each day we just need to be home for him to nap from about 1-4... yesterday it was 1:30-5. And he is teething now too with a cold... talk about miserable... Get some rest!!! love you.
Addie pulled the same thing a couple months ago. I tried to fight it, but it didn't work. We are one nap a day nappers too now. And, I thought I'd hate it, but it ain't so bad anymore. Good luck.
